Coastal Living in River City
At Safe Harbor Boys Home, life happens on the water. Our campus sits along the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, where each young man lives aboard his own vessel in our protected harbor. This unique waterfront setting teaches independence, responsibility, and teamwork in ways few environments can. Daily life blends the rhythm of maritime living—tidal changes, deck chores, and boat upkeep—with moments of reflection and community. The harbor becomes both classroom and home, offering calm waters for learning, growth, and restoration.

What Sets Us Apart
For more than forty years, Safe Harbor has combined structure, faith, and maritime living to transform young lives. The water itself is central to our mission—offering both peace and challenge while shaping character and perseverance.
More than fifteen donated vessels line our docks, serving as homes, classroms, and training platforms. Through the care of these boats,
cadets learn practical seamanship, teamwork, and stewardship—skills that translate far beyond the water.
While our foundation in Christian principles remains steadfast, our methods continue to evolve. We embrace new technologies, trades, and opportunities that prepare each young man for success anchored by faith and built on the timeless lessons of life at sea.
Bridging Academic and Extracurricular Activities
Each day at Safe Harbor begins with wisdom from the Biblical book of Proverbs, guiding both students and staff. Our team is trained to share faith-based mentorship in everyday settings, helping cadets apply biblical truth to real-life choices.
In addition to academics and maritime instruction, every young man participates in hands-on vocational training and life-skills development—learning to drive, manage finances, interview for jobs, and care for himself and others.
Cadets maintain academic progress and positive behavior to earn privileges such as boating, fishing, or surfing. Responsibility and respect are reinforced daily, ensuring that each student learns the connection between discipline, trust, and freedom.
