Serve Weekends at Safe Harbor

Serve Weekends are an opportunity to come alongside the mission of Safe Harbor and help create a place of restoration for young men. Volunteers join us for hands-on projects around campus — from boat and facility work to cleaning, organizing, and beautification. No special skills are required, just a willing heart. Come for a few hours or the full day, share a meal with the team, and be part of something meaningful.

Volunteer at Safe Harbor

A diverse group of six smiling individuals in matching yellow shirts embrace each other outdoors, radiating joy under a bright blue sky.

Volunteers are the heartbeat of Safe Harbor. From helping in the classroom to repairing vessels in the harbor, your involvement helps keep our mission afloat. Every act of service — large or small — strengthens the environment where boys can grow in faith, character, and skill.

Maintenance & Repair Volunteers

At Safe Harbor, keeping our harbor and campus in shipshape condition is a full-time mission in itself. Behind every life changed here are faithful volunteers who keep the docks safe, the boats seaworthy, and the campus ready for the next generation of boys to call home.

Our Maintenance & Repair Volunteers are the backbone of daily operations. Whether you’re tightening a bolt on a vessel’s deck, replacing dock boards, fixing an air conditioner, or painting a classroom wall, your work directly supports the transformation taking place in each boy’s life.

We’re always in need of skilled and willing hands to help with:

  • Boat & Dock Maintenance: sanding, painting, fiberglass repair, carpentry,
and electrical work aboard our vessels and docks.
  • Facilities Repair & Upkeep: general maintenance of campus buildings, painting, pressure washing, plumbing, electrical, roofing, HVAC, and more.
  • Grounds & Landscaping: mowing, trimming, debris removal, and beautification projects to keep our waterfront property clean and inviting.
  • Workshop & Equipment Care: tool organization, mechanical repairs, and assisting in restoring donated boats and vehicles.
  • Special Projects: help with renovation efforts, construction builds, or specific improvement initiatives for volunteer workdays.
  • If you have a trade skill — or simply a willingness to serve — we can find a place for you. Every repair, restoration, and maintenance task helps us provide the stable, Christ-centered environment that allows boys to heal, grow, and thrive.

Become A Volunteer Tutor

Education is at the heart of transformation. Many of our boys arrive behind in school due to disrupted home environments. Volunteer tutors make all the difference by giving one-on-one attention, patient guidance, and encouragement.

We’re looking for volunteers who can help in:

  • Reading, writing, and comprehension
  • Math and problem-solving skills
  • Science and technology

You don’t need to be a professional educator —just someone who believes every student deserves a chance to succeed. Your willingness to sit down, listen, and help can restore confidence and hope where it’s been lost.

Vocational & Trade Volunteer

Safe Harbor’s vocational training program gives boys hands-on experience that builds confidence and opens doors for future careers. If you have a trade skill, you can play a direct role in equipping the next generation.

We are looking for volunteers to instruct or assist in areas such as:

  • Maritime training & navigation
  • Welding & metal fabrication
  • Marine diesel & outboard mechanics
  • Automotive repair & detailing
  • Woodworking, canvas, and upholstery
  • Culinary arts & food service
  • Electrical, plumbing, and construction

Many of our boys discover their calling through learning practical skills. When you teach a trade, you don’t just share knowledge — you mentor character, discipline, and pride in a job well done.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

Not every volunteer role requires a toolbelt or a classroom — some of the most impactful contributions come from those working behind the scenes or bringing joy through recreation, organization, and creativity. These volunteers help keep Safe Harbor running smoothly and share the story of transformation happening here each day.

If you have administrative skills, a creative mind, or a heart for connecting with people, there’s a place for you on the crew. Opportunities include:

Technology & IT Support: Help with computer setup, troubleshooting, and keeping our digital systems secure and functional.

Marketing & Storytelling: Assist with photography, video, social media, or writing content that helps us share the mission of Safe Harbor with donors and the community.

Event Support: Help plan and organize volunteer workdays, campus events, fundraisers, and community outreach opportunities.

Athletics & Recreation: Lead or assist with boating, fishing, fitness, or outdoor games that encourage teamwork and healthy activity.

Organization & Office Support: Help with filing, inventory organization, donation management, or administrative projects that keep our team focused on the mission.

Each of these roles contributes to the greater work of rebuilding lives through faith and practical love. Whatever your gift, there’s a place for it here.
