The Story of the MITseaAH – Safe Harbor’s Testament to “Pray Big”
The MITseaAH is more than a yacht to us — she’s a story of faith, answered prayer, and God’s provision.
Years ago, as our co-founder, Captain Doug Smith was talking with the boys at Safe Harbor, they were flipping through a yachting magazine when one of them pointed to a magnificent sailing yacht on the cover and asked, “Why can’t we have a boat like that to learn on?”
It wasn’t a small request, but Captain Doug took it as a teaching moment. He challenged the boys to pray big — to ask God for the desires of their hearts and trust Him to provide.
Not long after, through a series of remarkable events and one timely phone call, that very yacht — the MITseaAH — was gifted to Safe Harbor. It became a cornerstone of our maritime program: a home for staff, a training platform for seamanship, and a constant reminder that God’s faithfulness often exceeds even our boldest prayers.
Now, as we prepare to let MITseaAH sail on to her next adventure, we do so with immense gratitude. She has served our boys faithfully, helping them learn, grow, and believe that no dream is too big when you trust God.
The MITseaAH will forever remind us of this truth: “You have not because you ask not.”
